Andover Recycling Grant
January 19, 2005TUCKER, FINEGOLD, AND L’ITALIEN ANNOUNCE ANDOVER MUNICIPAL RECYCLING GRANT
BOSTON – Senator Susan C. Tucker (D-Andover), Representatives Barry R. Finegold (D-Andover), and Barbara A. L’Italien (D-Andover) announce today that the Town of Andover has received a Municipal Recycling Grant administered through the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). Andover will receive a healthy lawn and landscape workshop, 50 curbside recycling bin stickers, 25 kitchen scrap buckets and 200 set-out containers, valued at $1,514.
“We must continue our strong commitment to protect our environment and encourage everyone in our community to recycle,” Tucker said. “This grant will be extraordinarily helpful in maintaining the high environmental standards we have come to expect.”
“These grants are critical because they provide incentives which encourage the entire town to recycle by off-setting some of the cost,” added Finegold.
“Increasing community participation in recycling makes good economic and environmental sense,” commented L’Italien. “This grant to raise recycling awareness aims to assist Andover in achieving that goal.”
Since 1990, DEP has awarded over $41 million in recycling equipment, household hazardous waste equipment, educational materials and technical assistance to municipalities. These grants play a vital role in building the state’s recycling infrastructure and making it more cost-effective for communities to recycle, thereby reducing the environmental and health impacts of waste management.
